Behavior

The Vervet Monkey is mainly frugivorous, but it also supplements its diet with a variety of other foods, including leaves, seeds, insects and small rodents. It has been known to destroy crops in Kenya, and was classified as a vermin in South Africa, allowing it to be shot without previously obtaining a permit, up until 2003.
It commonly lives in groups or "troops" of 20 or more, however the size of the group is often smaller than 20. Its gestation period is 7 months with a single offspring produced and is known to have a life span of up to 20 years.
One interesting phenomenon about the Vervet Monkey is that it seems to possess what has been called the "rudiments of language". Vervet Monkey alarm calls vary greatly depending on the different types of threats to the community. There are distinct calls to warn of invading leopards, snakes, and eagles. In doing so they attract attention to themselves, increasing their personal chance of being attacked, this has been noted as altruistic behaviour.(source: wiki)

Here's another one of these well coifed animals. How come if I leave my hair to nature I look like I stuck my finger in an electrical outlet... or worse. This lady looks perfect; clean and brushed. **sigh**

It is a wonderful pose, crop, sharpness and exposure. A+

Hallo Annick,
Zoals gebruikelijk weer haarscherp, letterljk en figuurlijk. Leuk nieuwsgierig koppie. Mooie contrasterende kleuren tegen de achtergrond. Erg goede belichting en laag standpunt.
Groet,
Peter

Hi Annick

Again a beauty from you and once more a close-up with a special expression and feeling.
The face of this lovely Vervet Monkey is really great here and captures a special kind of emotion. Such a feature is hard to get but sometime you seem to be an expert in it...my compliments!
That aside, the technical quality of this photo is really high, with impeccable exposure and outstanding sharpness.
Wonderful work all around!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Annick,
This is a beautiful capture of this cute creature. I would love to see a monkey in the wild someday but there is no chance it'll happen in my country :) As usual, exposure is natural and so are colors. Details are beautiful and you captured a great pose from your lovely model. I'm just confused about ISO 400 approx... How can it an approximation ;)?

Hello Annick, very nice portrait of this fine Monkey. You got a great pose, a very sharp image and a very good exposure, a beauty, really.

Mario

Hi Annick,
such a wonderful shot of that cute monkey, it lookes so interested in one direction, what was going on there? It must be wonderful to see them in wild nature and not together in a park - but I must say the monkeypark in Appeldoorn is also nice, we already talked about such a long time ago.
A beautiful post, thanks and greetings

Hello My Friend,
I have missed some of your superb work so I must get caught up. This image shows your outstanding talents for capturing the human looking species so very well. The eyes are incredible and the slight lean in the body shows its nervousness with your presence. Fantatsic work Annick, thank you.
Rick
