[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I feel it in my toes, Love is all around me, and so the feeling grows . . . Can’t remember the group, but it is from my misspend youth in the sixties.
This is my last post for about 2 weeks, so a quick interruption on the Cutie series.

This Cape Weaver has “it” - He is in the throws of nest-building frenzy, passion & the sheer joy of being alive. He was just starting on a new nest, several existing nests already in evidence. This post in not about the weaver and his skill per se. I have already posted info on this weaver in previous postings. This post is about the new baby in my life, the Sigma 80- 400, F4.5-5.6 APO OS lens. OS for Optical Stabiliser, Sigma’s answer to Canon’s IS lenses. It is not a comparison with Canon either, they make excellent optics, & this from a Nikon supporter! This lens can be handheld at three stops below “normal”, so it is claimed. Friday afternoon, I put it through its paces, & this is one of about 180 pictures that came out OK. I also binned more than 150 pictures. Firstly, the claim is true, in some instances. If you shoot moving subjects, like these small birds, you do not get sharp images all the time. For static birds, Bingo nearly every time. Also, Sigma claim 1.4X converter works with autofocus, the answer is HORSE! - A Clydesdale or Percheron, which is much bigger than a Bull! At 400 mm with a 1.4X, nearly all my shots were blurred, even manual focus was very difficult, mostly because the IN Focus indicator was difficult to see. I wear verifocals, and battle a bit with the viewfinder. I really enjoyed this lens, it focuses at 1,8 m or 6 feet, at 400 mm, so this make it possible to get close-up shots as well. I posted a Thicknees or Dikkop as we used to call them, taken at under two meter away, as a WS. Handheld, and I am impressed with the quality. Look at the clarity in the eyes.

It's funny, the hindwings now look like the gills of a mushrooom (I think I've done too may mushrooms over the last few days, critiques that is). Great shot Callie, very nice work.

What a super looking little bird Callie. I love its coloring and the perspective in this shoot. The focus is not just as sharp as id like but thats how it is on some shots. I usually always take two or three shots of the same scene just to be sure I get the sweet spot. Great note.

Its good to see some lens info as I think about what camera comes next? this is useful info.
The birdy is well caught you can almost feel the wings vibrating, nice one Callie.

Great picture with good colours and very interesting bird, it seemed to be that you have a lack of focus in the eyes.

Ha Callie! Ik ben blij te zien dat je nog steeds actief bent op foto-gebied! Ik had al zo lang niet meer van je gehoord en ik had het er met John (jhm) er eens over en hij zei dat je hier terug te vinden was. Hij heeft gelijk dat dit eerder bij jou past, jij die zo goed de natuur in al zijn aspecten in beeld kan brengen. Dit is een beetje te moeilijk voor mij; ik zal het bij mijn kerken enzo houden (die bewegen meestal niet, dus dat is wat makkelijker). Uit eerbied voor al die mooie dingen die je ons toont, geef ik je hierbij mijn allereerste TN punten. Prachtige vogel en zeker niet makkelijk. De compositie is ook goed; je geeft de vogel wat ruimte om naar te kijken. Bedankt voor de uitgebreide uitleg; die technische details kunnen anderen (ik misschien ooit nog eens???) zeker nog van dienste zijn. Ik spring nu en dan wel eens binnen op TN, maar niet alle dagen. Vele groetjes uit Vlaanderen en toon de wereld nog veel van die prachtige beelden uit Suid Afrika!

Callie, First thought was well, what blew up his butt!;-) Almost looks this Weavers been blasted from underneath with a can of comressed air!!Like your choice to put Weaver rt instead of say off-center? Hey, I'm jealous of that new baby Callie! And about that song. My wife & I picked our brains trying to remember that group - Can't quite remember either..

Very beautiful capture of a magnificent bird. Colours are magnificent and your new objective gives a sharp and clear image. Naturally, there is a photographer behind the camera which is the boss. Very interesting note.

This one really looks like a funny character, Callie. I like the very expressive pose and the attractive colors of the ensemble. I red your note with interest (being on the process of buying a long focal lens in april). Very good shot according to speed and distance. You sure have a stable hand!
