This photo is for Loot. He is a great example to all of us, four years long now. Not only by his fantastic photos, but also by the informative notes he put to his photos and his encouraging comments and critiques he gives to our photos. Thanks a lot Loot.
Therefore Ive chosen a photo from his beloved place, the Kruger Park.

The Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus) is an antelope found in Western, Central Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa.

Waterbuck stand 100 to 130 cm at the shoulder and weigh from 160 to 240 kg. Their coats are reddish brown in colour and become progressively darker with age; they have a white 'bib' under their throats and a white ring on their rumps surrounding their tails. The waterproofing secretions of the waterbuck's sweat glands produces an unpleasant odor in its meat, unless the animal is skinned carefully. According to African myth the meat of the waterbuck is not edible, but this is untruewhilst not especially tasty, waterbuck venison is safe to eat. The long spiral structured horns, found only in males, sweep back and up.

Waterbuck are found in scrub and savanna areas near water where they eat grass. Despite its name, the waterbuck does not spend much time in the water, but will take refuge there to escape predators. Waterbuck are diurnal. Females gather in herds of between two and six hundred individuals. Males keep territories of around three hundred acres (1.2 km) during their prime. They usually lose their territories before the age of ten.

Hallo Peter.

Mooi foto van deze imposante beesten.
Ze komen mooi uit zo in hun natuurlijke omgeving.
En terecht opgedragen aan LOOT.

Gr. Hans

Peter, we are neighbours today and surprisingly, you too have dug a little deep in the past like me to show us this wonderful picture of Waterbucks from Kruger Park taken during your visit there in 2005.
The setting and colours are very natural here and the pose of the animals staring back at you has been well captured.
Loot, I'm sure, would be pleased at your dedication.
Regards,
Ram

Hi Peter,

Incredible capture of these lovely Waterbuck while looking at you:), seems perfect in every way. A well-derserved dedication to our friend Loot!
TFS and have a nice WE MF!
Cheers,

Bayram

Hallo Peter
Yes, as Ram said, Loot would be very pleased with this dedication as soon as he sees it. He has gone to the movies with the children and how surprised he will be when he gets back and see this great image of the waterbuck couple dedicated to him. I like the way you captured this twosome with the female behind the male. It reminded me of the photos he took at a function last night, where he also captured the couples with the male in front in focus and the female behind him and a bit out of focus. The result was really great. Now to get back to the image, this is really a beautiful, typical Kruger scene and just as it should be without any make-believe. Although these buck are a bit away from you, the details are well seen to be appreciated to the fullest, and I especially want to mention things like the direct eye contact of both of the buck, the mud on the legs, the wetness of their snouts, the texture on the male's horns, the hair below the male's tummy and last but not least the most prominent feature of all the white ring on its backside. I really miss Kruger looking at this image. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna

Dear Peter!

You had the same good idea as Ram: you dived into your archives and found this superb present for our friend Loot. It's a picture that suits him and Anna very well. Your picture shows the characteristics of the Waterbuck very well and I particularly like the unity of the colour tones.

Kind regards

Hi Peter

This Waterbuck couple, dedicated to me, tickles me pink with pleasure and excitement.
I am truly blessed with so many wonderful friends here on the site. Thanks for the kind
words MF and for this dedication to celebrate with me, my 4 years at TrekNature. After
all this time I really have one regret only and that is because of a dreadful shortcoming
of adequate time to be able to critique or contribute as much as I would like to. But, I
do realise that I am by far not the only member with this dilemma.

What I really like about this image:
- As you said, it comes from my most favourite destination i.e. the Kruger National Park.
- It displays 2 specimens; a male and a female animal.
- The way how the female stole a look from behind the male.
- The lovely composition showing these gracious animals in their natural environment.

Well done and TFS.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Regards
Loot

Wow!! Peter, what an impressive shot of this beautiful couple!!
Tac sharp detail, gorgeous natural colors and perfectly exposed combine for an outstanding photo!!
I would imagine he could do some serious damage with those long horns of his if he wanted to. They couldn't have posed any better for you, even if they tried! Great work!!
