Blackeyed Bulbul (Pycnonotus barbatus)

This picture was taken on an overcast day in Lower Sabie in the Kruger National Park.

Status Southern Africa:
Very Common resident.

Habitat:
Woodland, forest edge, riverine bush, dense montane scrub, exotic plantations, gardens and parks.

Habits:
Usually in pairs, sometimes in loose groups at good food source. Highly vocal, restless and conspicuous; often calls from top of bush or tree. Forages arboreally, picking fruit and gleaning insects from leaves, also feeds on ground and hawks insects in flight. Calls loud alarm in presence of cat, snake or mongoose, usually attracting other bird species.

Food:
Fruit, nectar, insects, small lizards.

Source:
Roberts' Birds of Southern Africa.

It might be of interest to you that the colloquial name in Afrikaans is "Bottergat". Literally translated into English (my apologies) it means "Butter-arse". If you look at the picture carefully you will see that it is a very apt name. :)

Note to Alper (twin): I'm 100% sure that I identified this birds correctly according to "Roberts' Birds of Southern Africa".
