Hey Jan,

This is a wonderful shot. I don't think that people appreciate how close the Addo elephants where to being shot out.

One of my good friends is the great-grandson of the ranger that was ordered by the South African Parks Board to shoot all of the Addo Elephants as they were causing incredible problems for the local community, but being a true nature conservationist, he observed them for a while, and then petitioned with the authorities to save the Addo elephants. It took him many years to get them to stop leaving the park and going into the neighbouring farmer's lands. The man that I speak of was Harrold Trollip, and there is still a place of remembrance there for what he did. The elephants were extremely aggressive, and had no fear of humans which made his job extremely dangerous, but he managed to bring them around.

Well done. Harrold would have liked this shot.
