Ichneumon Wasp
Enicospilus sp. ?

I am not 100% sure of the species. It could also be a Braconid Wasp. They are distingguished only under magnification by the absence of a square cell on the fore wing. I used the colors and distribution to help me narrow it down.

Ichneumon wasps have very slender bodies with at least 16-segmented antennae that are longer than half the lenght of the body. In females the abdomen may end in a long ovipostor used to drill into plant stems to reach the host. Most species are black, yellow or brown. Ichneumonids parasitize the larvae and pupae of Lepidoptera, Coleoptera (especially wood-borers), Diptera, Hymenoptera and Neuroptera. This specific genus parasitizes larvae of Noctuid moths.

I was having breakfast last weekend when this critter suddenly joined in for some toast and jam. It sat and enjoyed this jam the whole time we had breakfast and returned later through the day on two occasions to check out what is on the menu. :)

I hope you like it.

Nice one Gerhard, definatly a diferent place to make a wildlife capture , but showing all the signs of a great wildlife photographer you are ready and waiting to capture whatever when ever a subject presents it's self. TFS

Excellent capture Gerhard. Wonderful reflection of colours in the wing and great background to set the wasp off nicely and at the same time adding som warmness to the picture. Colours are spot on as well as the dof and composition. Must have been a nice jam - did you eat the rest by yourself or did you make another toast for him;-).

Great macro! Beautiful colors, good DOF and excellent sharpness. TFS!

Excellent work, Gerhard. Thank you.

I really wish I could write so excellent critic/comment as yours directly in english.
Maybe it is because I have received such words than I am still on TN. You made my week with your: "Your note is without doubt the absolute truth".

Have a marvellous trip on the Coast, friend Gerhard!
