As almost all of you will know this is a lion. They have some natural habitat in South Africa and they are predators. Just looking at this male it is easy to see why they are called the King of the Jungle.
The scientific name for Lion is Panthera Leo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion) and they can weigh as much as 250 Kg, the females are smaller weighing in at less than 180 Kg. There seems to be at least 13 subspecies of lion. The differentiating factors being; size, mane appearance and location.
I would have preferred snapping this in the Bushveld but the zoo will have to do for now...
