Hi James !
Something to consider:
From an artists point of view, this picture would be perceived as a blue rectangle with a circular blot. Suggestion: Try a cut to the left of the branch, just before the middle blot, to trim away the two blots (upper left corner) and a lot of empty space.
1. The compositon will be more exciting this way, 2. emphasizing the subject with a portrait orientation, 3. focussing more on the subject (viewer is directed to look at the subject), 4. complementairy color-contrast will be better balanced, as the total "amount" of sky blue (surface area, integral) has been dramatically decreased, giving the yellow ochre of the dry leaves a chance to "compete with the blue" (orange/blue complement, the orange in this case is in the darker shades of the yellow-ochre of the leaves; we very much try to see this complementairy color, because of the tremendous amount of blue, if it's not there, this is a little bit exhausting for viewing).
Because of the complementairy contrast there will be more rest in this picture (relaxes color-tension trough the complementairy-color contrast).
Note: after this cut, you'll probably have to trim it a bit more -intuitively (also on the other sides, to correct overall width and height).
