Green Lacewing
Chrysoperia sp.

PLEASE VIEW THE LARGE POST

It is a very large family (79 species in the region) and most of them are light green. Some are yellow and some have red markings. The metallic eyes also lead to it's other common name "Golden eyes". They feed on aphids and Mealie bugs, but also nectar and pollen. They frequent trees, shrubs and grasses in many gardens and agricultural areas. They have been succesfully used in biological control programs against aphids. Teh adults are attracted to light.

This critter was a welcome visitor to my home. I could not get around much because of the op and my mobility. This critter came and sat on my computer monitor where I took this photo. Becasue they are nocturnal it sat very still during the day and allowed me to get up close with the "macro" set up and minimal working distance. I stacked the flash on my books and used the off shoe cable to get light on the subject.

Hope you like it.

Wow Gerhard. What a monster (LP). The wings are quite beautiful, I love their patterns, so lacy, no wonder they are called lacewings. Excellent colours and clarity. Well done.

Hi Gerhard!

We've got similiar ones in Poland - they're called Zlotook [Golden Eyed]. Most people like them very much - they are probably only living creatures in our homes during winter.
Beautifull macro, with green and golden colours. Detailed and sharp, excellent wings and eyes.

I have to admit it didn't look all that interesting on the thumbnail, but gee some great deatil on the LP version. The eye colour is amazing. So sharp its great. You've done a great job on the use of flash. super effort.

Hi Gerhard,
Excellent! Superb colors and detail. Like most things in nature, you need to look closer to see such beauty and detail. Your work allows this to happen here. Seems that you are adapting well to your limited movement right now, and still making great shots.

Hi Gerhard, I've had one in a top corner of my room for a while now. I won't disturb him as he is hibernating :-)

I'm glad he paid you a visit. You've done a very nice job for a sick man, you should take a couple of weeks off work, that's my advice.

Lovely details and I like the colours in the eye.

Lovely job.

Hello Gerhard,

I think we have these here as well, and after seeing this beauty, I will start paying more attention to them.

Great photo, sharp details, and nice green color.

Plus...he came to you, how wonderful!

Thank you, best wishes.

Excellent Macro! Baie mooi foto. Die detail is ongelooflik.

Very nice effort to get it onto DOF that gave optimal results. The large post is a delight, I appreciate very much the effort. I love the reflection on the eye. Looks really green in my monitor :D
Even the strange BG is quite good. Thanks or the LP my friend.
