Stunning colours and the complementary colur combi makes the snake really pop out. As does the composition, and the use of DOF. Excellent shot and with a good note too!

I really like the light in this shot. It does a great job of really highlighting the head area to show that beautiful coloring. The head area is sharp with a nice falloff in the DOF. Well composed and framed with a great note. Well Done!

You already know what I think about the photo. :) I love it.

But now when studying it at home I have my doubts on the ID. Boomslang or Green Mamba?? I know they are often confused with one another.

Green mamba - Brigh green sometimes with a few scatterred yellow scales. Below yellowish green.

Boomslang - The colors variate a lot. I think the most of any snake in SA.

The normal way of distinguishing between the two is the eyes. The boomslang has a much larger eye than the mamba. In this photo the angle of the shot makes it very difficult to tell. But if I have to make a choice I'll say small eye. :)

Very good capture. Especially if taken through glass. Nice clear focus and detail. I must agree with Gerhardt, this is definitely a green mamba. The eyes are too small (and the wrong colour?) for a boomslang. Great post anyway. TFS
