Acrididae (grasshoppers and locusts)

This fellow was tiny. VERY tiny (Approx 10mm in length). As you can see, he is sittin on a blade of grass.

The majority of non-colourful grasshopper species fall within the family Acrididae. If the grasshopper is very colourful it is probably a pyrgomorphid. The acridids include the locusts which are a select group of grasshoppers that are able to pass into a swarming phase subject to the right environmental conditions. Large, non-swarming, grasshoppers are often loosely referred to as locusts which is incorrect.

Hello Jannie!

Very green and detailed macro shot. I like diagonal composition, quality is very high and subject interesting. I like shadow of insect on grass. Very nice work!

Hi Jannie,
I really like the POV/composition, where the part of the body not visible is silhouetted through the grass. Excellent colours and the exposure is well managed (looks like some strong backlight).
Cheers,
Adrian

Excellent detail and great composition with the diagonal blade of grass....

Nice colours and the green background gives a great feel of this insects world!

Hello Jannie

Jy sê die giftige gogga byt ordentlik.

Very well done especially considering the small size of the hopper. I can see the typical grasshopper action, when one approach, namely to shift around to the back of the leaf hoping you are not going to see it. In my opinion, with the specific backlight you had here, it actually moved into a better pose/position. The shadows coming through the grass blade are great.
Very good composition, colours are fabulous, DOF is spot-on, BG is complimentary, and exposure was perfect.
Very well done and TFS
Regards
Loot

Good picture capture Jannie, i like the lighting and exposure, composition wise i feel it is tighter, i would have left more space after the head still maintaing the diagonal composition.
Overall a good picture and POV

Hi Jannie,
I really like this shot for the great use of light and shadow.
Alot of people fill flash these and they look nice, but I love when there is more contrast of light and shadow. Vivid colors and sharp detail. Great back lighting. Very cool!

Hi Jannie, nice macro shot. Good colours, detail and POV. How are you finding the FZ5? I have recently purchased a Canon 500d close up lens so just waiting for the bugs to come out and the sun to shine. TFS.
Dean.

Superb macro, Jannie. Unusual sharpness and colours.
