[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Silhouette is an outline image or design in a single solid, flat colour, giving the appearance of a shadow cast by a solid figure. The term is usually applied to profile portraits in black against white (or vice versa), either painted or cut from paper, especially popular c. 1750–1850 as the least expensive method of portraiture. The term "silhouette" originates from the name of Etienne de Silhouette, a Frenchman who was a finance minister to the Duke of Orleans. He was not the originator of this type of picture, but the French were apparently very impressed by his work: they came to refer to all works of this type by his name. In England, the first silhouettes may have been the profiles made of King William and Queen Mary, produced about 1700. The English called them "shades." In 17th-century Europe, shadow portraits and scenes were produced by drawing the outline cast by candlelight or lamplight; when paper became widely available, they were often cut out freehand directly from life. Photography rendered silhouettes nearly obsolete, and they became a type of folk art practiced by itinerant artists and caricaturists.
In this picture the silhouette of a Black Wildebeest is seen. It is an ox-like animal with unusual horns, a beard and hair on the nose. These animals occur naturally only in South Africa where they form herds of 6 to 50 individuals consisting of adult males, females and juveniles, or adult males only. They usually graze in the early morning or late afternoon, resting in midday. The colouring is dark brown and the horse-like tail is almost white. Both sexes have horns.

An almost silhoutte, but actually much more beautiful then a full one. I can still see some beautiful colors and details. Great low POV and a beautiful simple straight forward composition. It has a real serene feel to it.
