Hey another shot from the Kruger National Park, what a great place.

This giraffe was gracing close to the road. As you can see the animal was cleaning the branches off like you would suck a lollipop. Nogal cool.

I do not know if this was a male or female?

Some information from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giraffe)

The males grow up to 5.5m tall and the females only one or two feet shorter.

The giraffes closest relative is the Okapi (they are related to deer and cattle)

On their eating habits; they eat twigs and leaves from trees, with plants from the Mimosa genus being their favourites.

Shot Details:
Exposure Time: 1/640 sec
f/5.6 F-Stop: f/5.6
200 ISO Speed Ratings: 200
200/1 mm Focal Length: 200/1 mm
It was a slightly overcast day.

Looking forward to hear your comments and suggestions.

Regards
Johan

Hi Johan,
Love the pose, and especially that you caught him eating. But the overall photo seems to lack some contrast and sharpness. Which I would expect to be better by this great lens. But then the lighting seems to be difficult as well so overall good work and well captured.
TFS,
Niek

Nice photo.
Better time of day would have help on the light issue, but that isn't always in your control.
But I like it.

Hi Johan
Love this pose .. giraffe are difficult to get a good photo of... will post some of mine soon. I think you have great detail here, and whilst the colour does seem a bit bland, I know that the bushveld at this time of year is just that, so like the fact your photo is natural and you havent 'tweaked' colour to make it look more vibrant. Would think this may be a male... they say you tell by the hair (or lack of ) on the horns - the males fight and brush the hair off, females dont. I am sure you know all the other ways of telling! TFS
