[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The lion (Panthera leo) is a mammal of the family Felidae and one of four "big cats" in the genus Panthera. The lion is the second largest cat, after the tiger. The male lion, easily recognized by his mane, weighs between 150-225 kg (330-500 lb). Females range 120-150 kg (260-330 lb).[2] In the wild, lions live for around 10–14 years, while in captivity they can live over 20 years. Though they were once found throughout much of Africa, Asia and Europe, lions presently exist in the wild only in Africa and India (where they are found only in the Sasan-Gir National Park).

This was taken at the Lion Park near Randburg South Africa. The tree shows signs of regular use.

wow...I had no idea they weighed so much , gives me a good idea of the size since my dog weighs 120lbs..wow...thats one big kitty!! :o)

BTW Lake Erie is 204miles long and 58Miles across its a big lake..:o) sometimes looks like the ocean !

I like your wonderfully sharp image, Willem. The exposure in just perfect. I would have though that evaluative metering would possibly make her too dark against the bright sky but it is super. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic pose of this lioness scratching on the tree trunk.
Was she responsible for the shredded texture of that bark?
