common summer resident. present october to april,occasionally later, in mixed bushveld and riverine woodland, usually in pairs.
reference:newmans birds of southern africa.
got this shot near Satara. I saw plenty of them in just two days, however this is the only good shot. |

What nice colors on this bird But i think you could have done better not really sharp i think you know the head could have been in a better position compo very good

Hi Paul, great shot of the kingfisher. I've never seen one of these guys, for real or in photo. The colour is amazing. You've composed it well with good detail, especially on the feathers and eye (you got the catch light).

This is a terrific shot! What a beautiful capture!
The details on this impressive kingfisher are simply outstanding and the colors are lovely.
I really like the POV and the composition here a lot!
Very good DOF that blurres the BG nicely and also an excellent exposure management.
I do think the contrast is just a little low here, so i added a WS...hope you don't mind :)
Anyway, Bravo for this charming catch and TFS
