This is a Otomys / Groove-toothed Rat.
I think it looks more like a Vole to me.

He didn't mind that I came up really close and even used the flash. You can see his tiny hands grasping his lunch while he is eating.

Very cute fellow to spot on the way to the roof of Africa

Hi Staale,
Nice picture of this rat. It indeed looks like a vole. Funny thing about the eye. He (or she) looks really high into the air, like he's more worried about raptors than about this photographer.

You are right he looks very similar to the water voles I have seen. Lovely details. This is a fabulous close up.
