This 1 hour shoot at sunset was backlit, no choice.
This hippo pool was about 1 acre in size and there were about 30 hippos present. We had to be very alert because they exit the pool at dusk to graze in the surrounding grasslands. The stench at this pool was almost unbearable. |

An awesome capture of your river horse. sharp detail, the lighting is a bit harsh as you mentioned. A few notes about the Hippopotiums would be helpful.

Welcome to TrekNature! Wonderful shot! The hair on the ears stands out, as well as the eyes. Consider using a filter to correct for the harsh light reflecting off of the water. Overall, good technical acheivement.
I like this photo - it is unusual in that it is almost B&W. The focus is very sharp.
