Taken at Hippo pond, Serengeti plains. We were told, that hippos are the most dangerous to tourist based on death statistics.

The hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius), from the Greek ἱπποπόταμος (hippopotamos, hippos meaning "horse" and potamos meaning "river"), often shortened to "hippo", is a large, mostly plant-eating African mammal, one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae (the other being the Pygmy Hippopotamus).

The hippopotamus is semi-aquatic, inhabiting rivers and lakes in sub-Saharan Africa in large groups of up to 40 hippos. During the day they remain cool by staying in the water or mud; reproduction and childbirth both occur in water, where territorial bulls preside over a stretch of river. They emerge at dusk to graze on grass. While hippos rest near each other in territories in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and hippos are not territorial on land.

Goodness, and I thought I had a big mouth! Seriously, I love the pov because it is so different. I know they can be dangerous critters (gotta love animal planet and the national geographic channel!), but they are also quite interesting. I love watching programs on these animals and the struggle for life. They are true kings and have very few predators if I'm not mistaken.

In this photo, the mouth is well defined, quite clear, and I love the bristles of hair along the outside of the mouth. I'm also quite thankful that I'm not food for them! Still, what an interesting composition!

Hi Lenka, very excellent wide open shot of this hippo. I don't think I've ever had such a good view of Hippo molars. That is absolutely incredible. You can very quickly see why they are so dangerous. Shot wise, the composition works well. The colour is good, and not just the pink, the colour and texture on that wet but hairy skin is very good. Nicely done. Enjoyed.

I'm not a detnis, but I think it need some work ;-).
What a shot, excellent timing , I bet you if you could have been standing a bit higher you could have seen down his stomach.
Great sharp detail, and the textures are amazing.

He really needs some teeth whitening, before you take this shot. Very detail and good captured of the moment. I waited a long time for one to do this so I can take a picture like it, but no luck. Cool shot. I love it. TSF
