While camping in the Sahara, these guys were all over the place. When at a base, I saw a beetle that looked nothing like this and it was a called a "Scarab". Out in the desert, there were ones like these. I was told that these were "Scarab" or "Scarabaeidae". Perhaps they were beetles of the same family.
I slept in a sleeping bag on the bare sound and thought that I had spent the night alone, but each morning I woke up to foot print tracks from these guys all around me!
Black must be the worst color for anything that is in the desert sun. I wonder why they were not yellow like the scorpions and lizards. |

Hello Dan.
I like the pattern on the sand, it looks like it tryes to walk on its tips, to avoid high temperature...I would not like to be black on hte Sahara, but I am sure there is some kind of reason for that :)
