Bitis gabonica rhinoceros (Gabon viper)
The Gabon Viper lives on the rain forest floor in the equatorial belt of Tropical Africa. Its markings help camoflauge it amongst the leaves and spotted sunshine of the rain forest floor. They spend most of their time motionless in the paths of where their prey are most likely to cross. Though the Gaboon Viper may seem sluggish, it strikes its victims with amazing speed and agility.
They are poisonous and deadly and they have two large venom glands. The venom is a powerful haemotoxin (destroys blood cells and vessels) and its venemous bite can kill a full grown human within 15 minutes or quicker. It is important to note however, that very few people have ever been killed by this beautiful snake. Gaboon Vipers can reach an average length of 1.2 meters, but they have been found as long as 2.2 meters. It is the largest of the vipers. The subspecies of rhinoceros is distibuted in Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Kongo, Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Mozambique.

Hi Bayram and nice to meet you :)

I see you have quite and impressive gallery of herpetofauna photos and i must congratulate you for them. I too am a studying this subject and i can't wait for the warm season to come and continue my works and hopefully take some better photos :)

This one here must be one of my favorite snake species!
I think that the Gabon Viper is a really beautiful snake both as shape and as pattern. The head is absolutely lovely - just sa presented here - massive and impressive, but i also love the colors and the mosaic that this species has on it back.
A very nice photo and presentation! Very good details and close-ip level, excellent DOF and good low POV.

Bravo and thanks for sharing!

Halo Bayram,
another zoo specimen, I presume, but a perfect one, the parotoids and that cold, calculating eye are most impressive and the detail of your capture super. Good job.
Mehmet
P.s.: merak etme, sarı yıldıza çok az kaldı...

Hello Bayram,
Superb detail and sharpness in the portrayal of the head of this rhinoceros ssp of the Gabon Viper. You have a fine POV and must have been able to come close to take such a shot, typically on the forest floor among the leaves.
Well done my friend and thanks for sharing this one,
Ivan

Bayram merhaba,
Selamlar
Mustafa

Hi Bayram

What a pale color!! I have only ever seen darker ones (in zoos). Excellent capture, with good sharpness - I wish I could see in front a bit more though.

Best Wishes

Hello Bavram,
Fascinating close capture of this poisionous snake. Amazing colours and details of the scales very sharply captured. It's really beautiful but I wouldn't like to step on it! Like other snakes it must be sensitive to vibrations on the ground when somebody approaches. Very interesting note too!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Yılandaki netliğe hayran kaldım. tesekkürler.

Aman Hocam sizin bu engerek aşkınız bitmez. Bu güzelliği görünce ona tapmamak mümkün mü? Elinize sağlık. Mükemmel bir engerek mükemmel bir çekim.

Selamlar Hocam,
Nerede bir sürüngen görseniz hemen bir fırsatını bulup fotoğraflıyorsunuz :) Gabon Engerekleri dehşet hayvanlar. Bizim Koca Engerek yanında solucan gibi kalıyor :) Ama Koca Engereğin heybeti de bunda yok bence. Paylaşımınız için teşekkürler.
