This is a Hornbill.
More specific a Southern ground hornbill
Bucorvus leadbeateri or cafer is one of the two species of Ground hornbill

Photographed at approximately 03:30 p.m. in a place where prehistoric man, Stone Age man , Iron man and Bushman people (San) were present:
Kruger

Here you will find I think the same bird (not sure though) with a snake. There were two of them, I guess a female and a male. The blue parts are indicating it is a female and are clearly visible in the image with the snake. They may be more hidden here. I’m not sure though whether it is same bird or its male counterpart.

Techtalk..
Photographed without beanbag. IS on. ISO 400.
Developed in subsequently Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Have a good weekend!

Hi Annick,

A nice posting of a beatifull colored bird which I was lucky to spot and photograph as well in kruger,in your other posting I read that you did not see the snakes that much,I must say we were quite luck to see several snakes during our night drives, the puff adder and even an african python of about 3 meters, from the puff adder I managed to make a few captures although it was not that easy in the dark and with the high POV out from the van, anyway I will post one in a few moments,Sunday I will be of with a new photo adventure to Kuhmo Finland and try to make some captures of the european brown bear,

regards
ds

Hallo Annick,
Technisch schitterend. Allebei hoogstandjes.
Groet,
Peter

Hi Annick,
Outstanding shot of this gorgeous looking Hornbill with very impressive sharpness and colours on its plumage. The bill has seen some rough moments it seems. That eye looks calm and composed and you have captured it with fine DOF and a well chosen POV. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Annick,
Well this is one superb portrait of this species. Everything is so sharp and well colored, but what really makes this image for me is that eye. Incredible work My Friend, thank you.

Superbly captured portrait of the Southern Hornbill, Annick. The details are wonderful and the shot is presented with great sharpness, well saturated colours, focus and clarity. The details on the Bill is quite fantastic and the i like the turned head adn the expression in the eyes that nseem to search for something it already knows.
Very well done.
TFS & Cheers
