Greetings all, this is the third picture from my time at the Savannah Cheetah conservation project that myself, Gerhard Chamaine and Odette visited on the 3rd December. As I have said in a previous post it was a magical day. In fact that day has changed the way I think it has made me think about my life and I'm all the better for it. It was a very special day for me.

As I mentioned in the previous Cheetah post this project is run by Pieter and Estelle who do a fantastic job. The Cheetah in the picture is an young adult at around 18 months of age.

I hope you like it.

Hi Paul,
this is a fantastic portrait of this young cheetah.
I love the colour-tones, very beautiful.
Great details and very good POV.
Excellent work, MF.

Tack sharp, perfect light and color Paul. Excellent expression, and the centered catchlight helps to "hypnotize" ;-)
Very well done mf. Thank You!

Fantastic portrait. Great POV and eye contact. Lighting and DOF is spot on.

Paul, great note.

I like the yellowish shades all around. Great composition, pov and sharpness. I have the feeling the cheetah was thirsty or something - just a feeling.

Lovely catchlight and bg.

Congratulations.

Excellent portrait shot Paul, brilliant sharpness and colours, excellent POV and composition. I love this picture. Thank you Paul.

Oh my gosh!!!!!

Looking at this incredible shot and reading your note, one can almost imagine that your day spent with such companions, in such a place, would be life altering in many ways.

Congratulations Paul, on all such things...

Oh Paul, excellent capture, he is beautiful. Look at him looking right at you...
Very good lighting, and a sharp and detailed image. Very well done.
Janice

I love this picture, I always have. I wondered when will you post it.
There is something in these, a bit sad, eyes and whole face that makes it difficult to just stop looking at it. Don't know what it is but I could easily say you've captured here something more than just a beautiful cat.
Love it!

excellent portrait.catchlight in the sharp eyes and decent focus on the central face
focal length prohibits more sharp detail even at f7.1
but the ideal close portrait lens is a 105mm wide open...so you have all the elements..
and a canon camera...:|

Hi Paul
What a wonderful portrait ? The focus is spot on the face and soft elsewhere. The warm light is excellent. Incredible details and great shallow BG.
Regards Toni

WOW! What more can you say about this shot....the framing is great, exposure spot on, and the sharpness! Very well done, thanks for sharing.

Very nice picture. Good framing and DOF as well as sharpness

Hello Paul,

This is an excellent portrait! The exposure really is spot on, the details are razorsharp and the light it just beautiful. What I like best is the look in the eyes; it's as if (s)he is on the hunt for something. DOF is excellent aswell and so is POV. The light conditions in SA must be perfect as you were able to shoot at 1/1000, f 7.1 ... values I am often not able to reach in cloudy NL. ;) You're lucky to have experienced this. I wish I had been there! Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Impressive close portrait Paul. Can almost feel his warm breath. No nits here! Congrats!

At my first glimpse to the thumbnail, I tought that this photo come from Callie, Gerhard or Japie.
I am happy to learn that you lived a magical day there.
All I can say is that my way of taking photos change while I see photos like this one. I am a beginner in photography and the best I learned I learned it here on TN looking at your works and at the works of other members. And I feel cheap to only give my 2 cents from time to time.
I can also say that my way of thinking has changed a little: I can think in English now. I cant tell if it is a progress or not ;-)

An excellent photo, Paul. I love close-up portraits. The eyes speak by themselves. Cheetahs too can change their way of tinking.

Thank you.

Super portrait of a lovely animal, tfs

Hello Paul

Another Fantastic capture Paul,
I know you'll never forget your day with these amazing big cats, and thank you for sharing a bit of it with us here on TN.
The image quality is, as always first class. No nits whatsoever, I might come back to you later in the year to buy a copy of this. Wonderful post Paul.
Thanks for posting, enjoy the end of the week.

Hi Paul!

Splendid portrait you have here. Sharpness and exposure cannot be better. Composition and cropping are excellent. POV and animal expression are great. You left no room for improvement and workshop.

Simply a great picture. And TFS.

Magnifique !
Splendide portrait !
bravo et merci !

Hi, Paul.
Nice warm light cheetah. Excellent expression and pose. Well composed and high quality.

Purrrfect facial portrait of this cheetah, great detail and colors. I have a question on the once believed to be subspecies of cheetahs that are named king cheetahs with the densely sparsed spotted pattern. At the facility that you went to visit are they intentionally breeding them to achieve higher numbers of that genetic makeup or are they just getting lucky with the rare results? :)

good morning paul
ver good portre work.

Wonderful portrait, Paul.
Beautiful!!!
Congrats

Great close-up of the cheetah. The colours, details, all look beautiful. To me It seems the eyes are little softly focussed. But that is more than compensated for by the beauty of the animal. Thanks for sharing.
