Despite the lion supposedly being the "King of the Jungle" it is the "Lionesse" that generally does all the hard work which includes both raising the family and hunting for the pride.
Within the pride there can be anything up to 20 females and they generally hunt as a group to have a better success rate.The males sometimes help out by driving the prey towards the group of females.Out of the big cats they aren't necessarily regarded as the better hunters, despite the gameplan!!
This mother and her cub were members of a group of around 10 and they were having a deserved rest under some bushes.I had to resist the urge to go and lay down with them...they seemed so friendly and tame.

I love this one of the relaxed lionesse with the beautiful cub having it's lunch.
Friendly and Tame? hmmm - I suppose you just walked up to them with your 50mm lens and got some nice shots?
