Hi Aivar

A very well captured shot showing some interesting animal behaviour. Mostly one see zebras drinking from the side of a dam or pool, but this mom and her young probably wanted to cool down a bit as well as quenching their thirst. Zebras with their black and white stripes are probably the best equipped of all savannah animals to deal with the African heat so it is not that a familiar sight to see a zebra getting right into the water. Apparently the black and white patterns are by far the best design to radiate heat and thereby preventing heat build-up in the animals.

By the way, this is probably Grant’s zebra – Equus burchellii boehmi, the northern variety of the Burchell’s zebra. They are somewhat different from the southern variety. The ones we see here in Southern Africa, have a brown shadow stripe inside the white stripes that becomes more pronounced towards the rump.

I like your composition with the strategically placed reeds, the colours are very natural, the details are sharp and a clear range of the DOF is visible, and the exposure was well managed.

Very beautiful and quiet scenery, Aivar.
I love that soft backlight and the distinctly graphical composition of vertical stripes on the zebras, and horizontal stripes on the water.

WOW.
Zebra's are beautiful, with high definition and perfect soft light.
Furthermore the river adds a lot the the pic. Excellent conmposition with a nice perpective in the water. The perpective is even enhanced by the fact that the young one is looking towards the horizon. A masterpiece.

I think this is a great shot, I'm somewhat mezmorized by the diagonal, vertical, horizontal lines of plant, water, and animal creating really cool texture to the whole picture. Very nice capture Aivar. :)
