I had the assumption that rainbows do not occur in Antarctica, Chris, but your image proves my assumption wrong, and how!
Very nice image with the rainbow making an arch over the mountain.
A perfect point of view from which all elements -- water, earth, sky AND the rainbow -- make a lovely composition.
Thanks for sharing yet another long-awaited image from your historical journey.

Hi Krzysztof,
A very stunning photo. The combination of the rainbow with the ice landscape makes this a very wonderful photo. The hazy look and the vortex in the middle of the water shows the weather type perfectly. Even with the conditions, you still managed to get great texture in the rocks. The exposure is perfectly controlled and kept the show in perfect white condition.

I really like this one a lot since you've managed to capture a very beautiful mixtre: the icy-cold atmosphere of the arctic together with the wormth and happiness a rainbow brings...it does indeed create a unique mood :)
The note is also very interesting and makes a good read.

hm, never listened to Weather Report, but on their album "Black Market" (1976) and "Forecast: Tomorrow" (2006)
chester thompson played the drums and he is normally with genesis and phil collins on tour who i like very much..*g*..
ok, enough small talk, to the pic now. that looks like really heavy weather, the one where you stay at home and get cozy and warm.
terrific capture and composition - the rainbow above the "wild" water and in front of the snow-covered mountain is amazing.

Cool rainbow capture Chris,
I like the way the rainbow arches through the sky, ending at the mountain ridge and waters edge. I think I would've selected from the water up, and increased contrast a bit. Just a suggestion :)

A fine capture of the harsh weather at the bottom of the Earth, or top...It depends on your POV. Excellent DOF, contrast and focus on the hard to photograph whites. Very well done.

Po prostu zapiera dech, nic dodac, nic ujac. Myslalem, ze po twoich fantastycznych zdjeciach z krainy lodu juz nic mnie nie zaskoczy. Mylilem sie. Tecza na tle zlodowacialych gor. Pierwszy raz w zyciu widze cos takiego. Notatka tez super, ale to zdjecie...przysnic sie moze!

Once again an excellently conceived, well presented and complete post from you. I enjoyed the notes immensely! It's incredible how you captured two phenomenons of the atmosphere in one well composed picture. This is a rare sighting and I'm sure it felt great to witness such an experiment of nature.
I'm curious what aperture and shutter speed you used to capture the rainbow. I've read about some optimal settings for photographing rainbows somewhere on the net but can't remember what they were. However, I photographed a similar phenomenon last year using an aperture of f/11 and 1/640 shutter speed. You can see it here. I'm curious if you have knowledge of the ideal settings for capturing the rainbow. Thanks for sharing!
