The Gentoo Penguin, Pygoscelis papua, is easily recognised by the wide white stripe extending like a bonnet across the top of its head. Chicks have grey backs with white fronts. Adult Gentoos reach a height of 75 to 90 cm (30-36 in), making them the largest penguins outside of the two giant species, the Emperor Penguin and the King Penguin. They are the fastest underwater swimming penguins, reaching speeds of 36 km/h.

Se trata de un pingüino de vincha (Pygoscelis papua) o Gentoo penguin, creo que es el símbolo de Linux. La foto está tomada en una pingüinera de la Península Antarctica , en el continente, es una de las poblaciones más australes de ésta especie. Como se puede observar en la fotografía la especie se caracteriza por la mancha supraocular blanca continuada y por el pico rojizo-anaranjado con el culmen negro.

Hello Ferran , This shot is very nice and so complete ,well taken shot , good in pov and a very fine details ,good job ,tfs Greetings Teunie .

I love the texture of the penguins you've capture and his stance. The photos is sharp and his eye is very detailed - a terrific capture. It reminds me of March of the Penguins as the males waited for the females to return from the sea - as if he is just watching and waiting. Thanks for sharing.
