Catharacta antarctica

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Escúa antárctica.
The Brown Skua (Catharacta antarctica) is often referred to as Antarctic Skua (or vice versa); the taxonomy of Skuas is still a matter of dispute. Other names (probably owing to the high level of hybridization in this species) include Southern Great Skua, Southern Skua or Subantarctic Skua. The New Zealand Māori call it Hākoakoa. It breeds circumpolar in the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic zones.

Thanks for sharing,
Cheers,

Well done Ferran. Great low pov and comp here. Nice sharp detail. The bird looks super amongst the mossy rocks and snow.

Hi Ferran,
Beautiful photo with a great mood.

Greetings,
Selen
an unusual photo for me - insofar, that I never saw a Skua sitting down during our time in Antarctica; all we saw were brown bundles trying to dive-bomb us.
The use of high speed shows beautifully, how big the snow-flakes are - and the perfect focus - the molten snow i.e. waterdrops on its face.
Regards
Ingrid
