Do you remember the Genesis song I Can't Dance from 1992 album We can´t dance. And do you remember the special walk (dance) of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks. If not you can find it here.

I think that this penguin is a Genesis fan and he is doing the same special walk.

Gentoo Penguin Pygoscelis papua

Order SPHENISCIFORMES Family SPHENISCIDAE

Distribution:

Antarctica
Argentina
Australia
Falkland Islands (Malvinas)
French Southern Territories (Crozet Is.; Kerguelen)
Heard Island and McDonald Islands
New Zealand [vag]
Saint Helena [vag]
South Africa (Marion-Prince Edward Is.)
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

Pygoscelis papua breeds on South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (to UK), the Falkland Islands (to UK), the South Orkney and South Shetland Islands, Prince Edward and Marion Islands (South Africa), Crozet and Kerguelen Islands (French Southern Territories), Heard Island (Heard and McDonald Islands [to Australia]) and Macquarie Island (Australia), and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Gentoos live mainly on crustaceans such as krill, with fish making up only about 15% of the diet. However, they are opportunistic feeders, and around the Falklands are known to take roughly equal proportions of fish (Patagonotothen sp., Thysanopsetta naresi, Micromesistius australis), crustaceans (Munida gregaria) and squid (Loligo gahi, Gonatus antarcticus, Moroteuthis ingens).

ABOUT GAUSSIAN BLURING

I HAVE A QUESTION. I PREPARED ANOTHER PHOTO OF GENTOO PENGUIN. I DID A LITTLE GAUSSIAN BLURING. I KNOW THAT ON SOME SCREENS THE GAUSSIAN BLURING IS VISIBLE. (BUT I DON’T KNOW WHY). I HAVE A LCD SCREEN AND ON MY SCREEN EVERYTHING LOOKS NICE BUT I KNOW THAT THERE ARE SOME PROBLEMS (STRANGE, NOISES LIKE TEXTURE ON OTHER TYPES OF SCREENS).

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT? IN MY WORKSHOP YOU CAN FIND THE SECOND PHOTO. TELL ME DO YOU SEE THE BLURING OR MAYBE EVERYTHING LOOKS NORMAL?

I CAN GIVE YOU TWO EXCAMPLES: MY OLD PHOTO HERE AND IVAN (ARGUS) PHOTO HERE. ON BOTH OF THIS PHOTOS GAUSSIAN BLURING WAS USED. ON MY SCREEN BOTH PHOTOS LOOKS NORMAL BUT ON SOME OLDER, TRADITION SCREENS THE STRANGE NOISES ARE VISIBLE I THINK THAT IT IS VERY INTERESTING PROBLEM BECOUSE GAUSSIAN BLURING IS ALLOWED ON TREKNATURE. PLEASE TELL WHAT DO YOU THINK?

BEST WISHES
KRZYSZTOF

Hi Krzysztof, lovely penguin in great pose, excellent sharpness, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Hello Chris,
I think the gaussian blur in your WS closeup looks fine. Your post is excellent, great exposure of the whites with nice details there..
And what a nice pose, as the bird is caught mid-stide, flaps up :)
I like the FG rock shapes & different sizes I see, along with the foamy surf in your BG..Great overall composition.
Very well done!
Howard

Hello Krzysztof,
Funny action has been captured!
Seems like this guy is busy getting somewhere. lovely posture and fine details in the plumage...
A well composed presentation with fine natural colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

PS
I see no problems with the WS (LCD)...

Hello Krzysztof,
great clarity also the best pov in seeing this Penguin!
good Dof with sharpness, colour and details
very well composed and well seen
greeting
Tony

I think your white balance is spot on. I really wish I could use the white balance better, but when I goof up, I can correct in some unusual ways. Too many years of black and white film hurt me in such areas...but your pic here is right on the money.

Hello Krzysztof

A beautiful shot of this penguin. They always look neat. The details and colours are very good. The black rocks and dark waters make an interesting colour palette. The orange of the penguin really stands out.Nicely composed .TFS

Rob

Hi Chris,
A nice capture. Very nice details and POV. And I think the WS version with blurred BG also looks good. But this is more eyecatching showing its natural environment.
Thanks a lot for sharing.

Czesc Krzysiek!

Mokre kamienie i fale w tle tez sa super.

Hi Krzysztof

Greetings from Singapore - en-route to Papua New Guinea.

First this is a lovely shot of a gentoo peguin - the detail on the penguin is very good. I also like the way that the BG is divided between contrasting textures.

I find the problem of preparing photos really difficult - I prepare and post on one PC, but do my crits on my other PC which is next to it - the photograph often looks completely different (the picture of the British Chough, for instance looked fine when I posted it, but looks pretty awful on the other screen). I have not got a clue how to overcome this - sorry!

Hello Krzysztof
First of all, the capture itself is superb as are the colours, the details and the composition. The whites are fabulous (as Bob says).
Secondly, I see no problem with the blurring -- nothing odd at all.
However, the one thing I would beg of you is not to use all capitals in your notes. That actually makes them difficult to read. If you want to set off something as separate, please try italics instead. Just use the I the way you have used the B to make a section bold.
Many thanks

Hello Krzys,
Having read your note I'll just confirm that both shots look perfect on my screen!
Now to your Penguin note - the link you mention doesn't work for me!
But your Penguin capture is superb!! All in focus and very sharp and I like its dance! Beautiful colours too and I like the frothy waves and the black stones as a background.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Krzysztof,
Well done...
Overall sharp. Good compo.
I verified the noises and they are not visible on my laptop I'm using right now. The latter can be seen as old. A few years is old, I guess:-)
Well done and TFS
Annick

You managed a perfect exposure in this shot Krzysztof. The crop and the action of the subject make for a very effective image. I like it a lot. The gaussian blur in the workshop looks fine to me.

Evelynn : )

PS
How do you get the bold characters in your note?

Hi Krzysztof,
Nice shot. Sharp and well exposed image. The workshop is blurred nicely in the background. The two examples also look good on my flat-glass-terminal. Very well done and tfs.

Hello Krzysztof,
Excellent shot of the Gentoo Penguin, the sharpness allowing it to show well against the foaming sea in a fine composition.
The gausian blur in the WS looks fine on my screen.

Hi Krzysztof,
Wonderful shot with sharp details and perfect exposure. Superb lighting and focus and you have captured a fabulous moment here. The FG black rocks and the white foams present fine contrasts too. Excellent POV to portray it and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Wow, Krzysztof. Stellar is all I can say. This is a great capture in the wild. Nicely composed tight shot here with great details. The tight shot has also limited the color palatte here to show the bird in his B&W surroundings -- which really helps the beak and the feet stand out. The blur looks perfect on my monitor - it really looks like a prefect DoF.
Mike

Hi Chris,
Your picture is excellent. I like the dynamic posture of the penguin. Colours are great and I like the stones in foreground, the are really beautiful. DOF is nice too.

Hi Krzysztof,
A fine capture of the penguin with outstanding color and POV. Very well done.

Jim

Hallo Krzysztof
When I saw the title to your photo, I immediately thought of the animation movie "Happy Feet" where the penguin could not sing and wanted to proof himself by tap dancing. I enjoyed the movie so much and could not help to fall in love these penguins. Although primarily an animated film, it does incorporate live action humans in certain scenes and one can compare it to many situations in our daily walk of life. You have managed to capture a fine pose of this bird. The details and focus is spot on. A well presented photo, filled with colour and atmosphere. It was lovely to look at. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
