Great shot of a nice species.
I am sorry to say but I would have liked it to be a bit sharper.
It looks to me the focus is a bit soft on the edges. I just feel if the outline was a bit more crisp it would have been perfect!

Hi James
An impressive capture of these three King Penguins as they stand there pretending not to see you. Wonderful POV! The colours, detail and lighting are great. I find the colouring of King Penguins very intriguing with their touch of orange and yellow. I guess during the snowy months it's easier to find your family.

Your so lucky to have made it to Antarctica.

Hi James, this is a great shot that just isn't going to be very common here. The composition is good and you've done a great job of isolating the birds from their background. It is really tough to capture a black eye on a very dark background like this. I tried a workshop, to isolate the area and lighten it up with curves but it was pretty ugly so I abandoned that thought. With respect to your comment on sitting still and letting the animal come to you, I've found that now with a lot of different animals. For the most part I think they are as curious about us as we are of them (only we have the camera).

a gorgeous shot that's for sure. Not many people get to see these pinguins like you did. The composition is really fine and so are the colours.
I think you shot a pretty sharp image here, but the scanning result is not really great. The image lacks some sharpness, what this image would make a winner.
But don't worry, I think you have a beautiful image here.

Great color and clarity... excellent POV. DOF works nicely, sets the penguins off beautifully. The one on the right seems to be saying "I'm NOT listening to any gossip, you two !"

What a beautiful picture. Those guys look funny. They look like being in a mundane event with their tuxedos and snob attitude :) I like their superb colors, exposure, details and POV. This is a photo that i've looked at quite a while ago and i was pretty sure that i've critiqued. To my personal surprise, this was not the case when i opened it up now...so better late than never ;)

This actually reminds me a little of the 3 thenors :))
The pose of this 3 cute penguins is just lovely and the fact that you managed to isolate them so well from the BG is outstanding!
The details and colors everywhere are fantastic and the POV and exposure and spot-on.

Hello James,

Nice picture of those 3 pinguins! The exposition is good even if some white are burned on the breast... The other thing is that maybe you cropped a little bit too much (the feet are to near the frame) but maybe it is a full frame picture... I like the bg enhancing the birds and the way they are standing!

I just love penguins. They gotta be one of the worlds funniest animals. It's a beautiful bird and especially the King Penguin. It's a really nice catch you got and I like your note. Can imagine how they just turn their head and whistled :)
