Acytolepis puspa, Horsfield, 1828.
The Common Hedge Blue

The Common Hedge Blue (Acytolepis puspa) is a small butterfly found in India, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Malaya, Indonesia, Philippines and New Guinea that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family. Surprisingly, there are very few pictures of this species on TN and none previously showing the underside of a female. This picture was taken in Brunei many years ago, and has been resurrected from my old slide collection, in order to fill this gap on this marvellous website. After scanning, the picture has been treated first with Neat Image, then cleaned with the spot healing tool in Photoshop Elements. It has been cropped, resized and sharpened with the unsharp mask at 150/0.4/0.

Hi Alan,
Wonderful shot of this beautiful butterfly with nice colours and markings on its wings. Very sharp image with perfect lighting and exposure. The darkish BG works well here and you have captured a classic pose with a precise DOF and a fine POV. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hello Alan,
very high quality for a scanned picture. Details are admirable concerning wing pattern and scales of the wing margin.
Very good contrast to the background and pleasant light.
I'm not sure that this is Acytolepis puspa - it looks more like Acytolepis ripte.
But, you are the specilist for SE-Asian Lycaenids.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Alan,
A beautiful picture of Common Hedge Blue. Sharpness and color clarity are excellent. Beautiful markings and blue color are well presented. TFS this image from your archive.

First of all, I must thank you once again for helping me with the ID of a Skipper I shot and posted today.
This is a brilliant resurrection of an old slide showing this Blue butterfly.
The edited version made from the slide is quite sharp and full of precise details.
Thanks for sharing this gem from the past and warm regards.
Ram
