| In a Cambodian zoo, this bear lives in a little concrete enclosure with a roof and chain link around it. Anyone could put their hands in his home area. He wanders back and forth, frustrated, and lonely. Bananas are sold in front of the zoo by hawkers, to feed the animals. Zoos are good to meet animals you would never see otherwise. I think a zoo offers opportunities to create a love of nature. I saw how much the young zoo keeper loved the animals. Zoos in richer countries now, are trying to create more interesting habitats for the "prisoners". After all, they are in jail in a sense. In this poor country, I think this is their best effort. It seems very sad for the bear. |
