[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this shot in the middle of the day, it was hot and humid and I was sweating terribly. Maybe Im a little stupid? However, it was my decision to go take photos today. Well I found a nice spot to sit and sweat by one of the local lakes. I really wanted to get photos of a dragonfly or damselfly today. I scouted out a couple that were doing regular flybys of certain reeds and grassy out croppings. I eventually decided to try for this big one. This dragonfly kept coming and going from the same spot very regularly so I setup and started to wait. Everytime it would just start to settle on the grass in this shot it had to take off and fight off another dragonfly or just resume its regular patrolling area. Eventually it settled down for longer than 5 to 10 seconds and thats when I got this shot. Shortly after this photo I had enough of the heat and went home or else I would have jumped in the lake.
Sorry for the rant.

Hi Matthew,
Wonderful profile shot of the dragonfly. Very neat and clear details and amazing sharpness. Nice colours and spot-on focus. I like your POV to portray it and the neutral BG. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Bonne journée.

Great POV on this Chinese dragon
Outstanding sharpness

Well done

Chris

Your macros are wonderfully crisp and sharp - great color and composition too.

The best photos are often those for which we endure...one of my butterfly shots left me with blisters all over my legs from the attack of fire ants...but I wanted to be still for the photo so I gritted my teeth and kept snapping. We are crazy people!

Hi Matthew,
Well composed. I like the neutral BG.
Well done and you deserve a shower:-)!
Well done

Matt, your story had universal connotations. Still, despite heat and humidity, you eventually managed a wonderful shot of this club-tailed dragonfly (no,no, that's not the ID of this insect; I'm simply describing its appearance).
The shot is well composed with superb focus on the head and thorax region. The eyes are well captured.
You have a versatile camera already which you are using quite effectively.
Regards.

Matthew, you seem to have got yourself a beautiful pic for all the hardship you had to endure ;-). I would concentrate on the wonderful composition here rather than the POV. Nice colours as well.

Excellent work, Regards, Kiran

Hi Matt,
I guess sometimes you have to sweat to get the good photo, but this one was worth it. Excellent detail and very nice colors. This is good POV because we can see the eyes an the thorax clearly. I like the crop and frame.

Hola Matt,
estupenda macro,
sensacional pov,
nitidez y genial trabajo,
saludos

Hello Matthew,
At first I would like to say that I like a lot a composition of this photo. Maybe not very unusual as for the dragonfly, but I really like it. DOF and POV are very good, also colours and sharpness.
BY the way, this is a member of family Gomphidae, but it is not easy (fo me) to give a species ID.
Best greetings and TFS,
Radomir

Hello Matt,
This is a fine capture of a Clubtail Dragonfly, the species unknown to me. Fine sharpness, POV and composition, the head and thorax being razor sharp.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hello Matthew,
very elegant, artistically skilful contribution.
The dragonfly's body and wings perfectly fitting into diagonals, the leave a dynamic slash, the fine spectre of bright colours in front of a distant, cool, uniuformly grey background are exciting to look at.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Taking shots like this via macro are difficult at best. Excellent capture Matt!

I think tomorrow I am going out and find me a few dragonflies too! Oh yea you are NOT stupid! I think that dragonflies move about only when it is hot.
Sweet depth of field and point of view!
The colors are great!

Elton
