The reason I took this picture is the reason I started watching birds. Most of the time people see birds like this in zoos and quickly pass by or a small bird lands on a nearby fence and is not given a second look. It is only when you look closely and note the detail and amazing colours of birds that you begin to appreciate them aesthetically and environmentally.
The White naped crane is tall(150cm) white distinguishing marking of grey, red and black seen on the face, as shown here. It ranges from Siberia and northern mongolia to South China. It is a globally vulnerable bird which may be more at risk since it winters in the Yangtze. It feeds on agricultural lands. |
