[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was out trying to photo my telephoto lens in an attempt to get photos of birds but I was unsucessful. Instead I reverted back to insects. I only had my 300mm lens. It was difficult to get shots but I gots some ok photos. It was a real education to see the difference between the telephoto and a macro lens that I would normally use. I think I managed a good result here although the head is slightly out of focus. The sharpness is ok but I believe it would have been an overall better result if I used my marco lens.

I like the photo Matt. The lighting is really good and so is the DOF. You did a great job with the composition as well.

Hi Matthew,
Great sharpness and very neat BG. Well composed and nicely framed. By the way, where is the other anthena? I only see one of them. Superb shot and excellent PP works.

Ben Lakitan

Hello Matthew,
I think good quality telephotos work very well as macro lenses, even though macro lenses are easier and a better bet for a good result, especially for closer shots.
Having said that, I think that this shot has all the qualities of a good macro.
TFS, regards, Ivan

You have done a fantastic job with your lens, Matthew.
The image is not only sharp, clear and colourful but has also acquired a three-dimensional outlook through your deft handling of your equipment.
I love the composition with the butterfly resting at the centre of a big, sawn-off stump of a tree.
TFS and take care.

Matthew, some bir could have been here, but you did great with the butterfly above.

Great colors and pov. I like composition and blurred bg too.

Hello Matthew,
Your notes are very interesting because I lived the same situation my 100-400mm (trying to photograph birds which ended with a butterfly picture). I was quite amazed by the result but I guess this is not the same result than real macro lens. I you feel like it you can see the result with my picture called "Clouded Sulphur". I think that this situation happened more than once...

This picture is very nice with excellent details on the wings. I like those colors, POV and DOF. I think you could have tried to be a little closer... Anyway this is a very nice picture with good composition, colors and a beautiful BG. Well done and TFS,
Claudine
PS, thanks a lot for your comment on my 100th :)

Nice macro with great colors and lighting Matthew.

I like it a lot: composition, POV, DOF, focus, color, lighting, sharpness, background, framing.

I like it: frame (personally I don't like so thick frame), notes.

I don't like it: only you forgot to include the used speed.

Beautiful composition to add to your portfolio.
Thank you and greetings... Ricardo

Hello Matthew

A lovely shot of this butterfly.Wonderful lighting and excellent sharp detail.A very good perspective.Great job.TFS

Rob

Nothing wrong with the choice of lens you chose for this shot, it gets those nice upclose shots without disturbing skittish animals such as your lovely butterfly. :)
