Hallo Chi
Snakes are not my favourite topic, but this snake is displayed beautifully. (Can snakes ever be regarded as beautiful?) The focus is absolutely stunning, and the light coming from below just gives this image that extra umpph! Great portrait, with stunning clarity and sharpness. The detail of the big black eyes and scales are really super. I can count the scales one by one if I wanted too and it seems as if the snake is looking at you straight in the eye. Thanks for sharing.

This is quite the position you have for this shot of this snake Chi. Very nicely done with a great capture of his head. The back lighting is kind of neat too. Colour and detail seen on this guy is very good with excellent focus on his face.

Hi Chi,
Your pictures are always irresistible irrespective of the fact that even though I am teriibly scared of snakes, I like this image of a Rat Snake you shot in China.
In this amazing image, only the head of the snake is in awesome focus. And it has got a halo around it. I wonder how you managed to get it because it is this very intense light behind the snake's head that makes this capture a true masterpiece.
Goodness, the snake is staring back at me!

A very intersting and odd picture, the bright yellow light gives to snake a nice effect and illumination. In other words a excellent image.

Hi Chi

Not that one can specifically pinpoint your field of expertise or preferred focus, but this is definitively something different from you. From your lens we have seen amazing insect macros, wonderful bird shots, more than remarkable bat photography, an assortment of outstanding mammal images, and some breathtaking landscapes, but I believe this is only your 2nd snake photo. Not that I am the one who is complaining. Please don't misunderstand me. I am far to chuffed that we are seeing you uploading again after a period of absence and all I can say if this is the standard of you snake photos you are most welcome to post a couple more.

You made excellent use of a very shallow DOF to concentrate the focus on the facial area only. This ensured that the fall-off areas in front and behind actually added to the dramatic effect and complimented the subject in the process. The strategically placed (positioned) light spot also guaranteed a spectacular focal emphasis of the face. The composition is great with the snake curling into view throughout the shot and the head finally delivered somewhat off-centre. You also made good use of the fill-in flash and have the light appear very natural with excellent colour rendition.
