Dear all,

This photo was taken before I joined TN. This is not a up-to-standard photo technically, but this is certainly one of the most colourful and interesting insects I have ever seen.

It looks like there are two insects, but there is in fact just one insect. I have thought of maybe two insects are mating at that time, but if they are mating, how can they walk so swiftly from one leaf to another and another in synchronisation?

I wonder if you know the name of this fascinating insect?

I have posted another picture of this insect at the workshop for better identification.

I saw this insect when I was walking up to the Guia Hill, the highest hill in Macau, early this year. It walked quickly from one leaf to another. I wasn’t prepared when I saw it suddenly – I hadn’t got my camera ready and didn’t really know how to operate my camera properly (because before I joined TN, I was too reluctant to read the manual : P )

I thought maybe I should wait for another chance to take a proper picture for TN posting. But sometimes, one may meet a particular insect once – not twice.

I look forward to your comments and pointers. Thanks much!

Chrs,
Man Yee

About the Guia Hill

From http://www.asiarooms.com/travel-guide/macau/macau-popular-destinations/guia-hill.html

Guia Hill in Macau, China is the highest hill (94m above sea level) in the Autonomous Macau Region of People's Republic of China. The popular destinations in Macau such as the Guia Lighthouse, Guia Fortress and the flora garden are positioned on this hillcrest.
The lighthouse atop the Guia hill in Macau was built in 1865. The post is the oldest Western-style lighthouse in Asia. The geographical coordinates of Macau exchanges exactly to the lighthouse match up. A cable car runs from the near by Flora Garden to the Fortress and Lighthouse on the Guia hill. Besides the light house and the fort, there is also a small chapel dating back to 1637. The ceilings of the Chapel are ornamented with Chinese and Western figures. These paintings are characterized by affluent cultural meaning, a blend of Chinese and Western symbols, together with angels wearing time-honored oriental costumes.
Guia Hill in Macau is also known as Qin Shan in the local parlays. It is very much similar to the Chinese instrument called Yao Qin in shape. Existence of numerous Pine trees causes it to be called as Chong Shan or the Pine Hill. Guia hill holds the largest green area in Macau. The covetous road surrounding the Guia hill is now a part of famous Macao Grand Prix racing track.
Visiting Guia Hill in Macau, China is like touring the times of yore. The 17th-century Monte Fort sitting on the top of the hill offers a great view of the scenic Macau peninsula. The road that curves around Guia Hill is today part of the famous Macao Grand Prix racing track. Guia Hill in Macau is the only of the hills in Macau to have underground tunnels. These were used as air raid shelters during the Second World War. Lengths vary between 456 and 47 meters.

Yes Dr Man Yee,
You are right, but when it comes to survival, mating is secondary issue to this couple & they probably acquired synchronized walking over a period. Good POV & sharpness of this unique couple. TFS.

Hi Man Yee,

Nice photo and, as you say, very nice colors. There are first the colors of the insects themselves and then the nice contrast made with the green of leaf and background.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hello Man Yee!

These two belongs to true bugs. They're rather easy to ID and very similiar to our local species. Good moment and fantastic colours. Insects are slightly out of focus, but overall I like your picture.

Hi Man Yee
A wonderful macro capture of the mating pair of this colourful and interesting Reduviid insects. TFS.
Cheers,
Bayram

Hello Man Yee. Beautiful shot at this hemiptera mating. Nice focus but a deeper depth of field helps IMHO. Very good perspective with nice muted background. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Your inquisitive mind keep you going...I sure do not know all the answers, but I have found that if one sticks around long enough, they will learn:-) BTW and in case you missed my comments..I loved the way you redid the bee photo the other day..I wonder if perhaps timing might be a constraint for you. I assume you are a very busy person....I can see your difficulty in the image and well noted as pre-TN..but the question and answer part all makes up!
