The plant

Lotus is a water plant growing in the mud of shallow ponds, lagoons, marshes and flooded fields. It is native to parts of the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Guinea. It can grow to a height of up to 6 m depending on the depth of water.

Rhizomes - firmly anchored in the mud beneath the water surface, the lotus plant has long stems to which the leaves and flowers are attached. The crisp rhizomes are eaten in a variety of savoury dishes in Asia. The rhizomes are pocketed with air tunnels so that, when sliced, each disc looks like a piece of Swiss cheese or a snowflake.

Leaves - disc-shaped and up to 90 cm wide. They either float on or protrude above the surface of the water. They have long leaf stalks that are scattered with small bumps. Both leaves and leaf stalks are eaten as vegetables in Asia.

Flowers - large and attractive with lots of petals. They tend to be rosy-pink or white coloured. They are sacred in Buddhist and Hindu religions and are frequently represented in South Asian art and literature. They are sometimes eaten as a vegetable in Asia.

Seeds - hard and dark brown. They can vary in shape from round or oval to oblong. They are sometimes eaten in India. Lotus seeds are also the oldest viable seeds ever recorded (1300 years old).

Hello Manyee,
Very nice portrait of this beautiful
flower, very nice colors and great POV

Everton

nice colours..sharpness and details...only thing which i don't like in d composition is d flower bud/seed (whatever it is )on d right hand side of d main object, that has actually become a distraction, which is disturbing d image. could have been avoided, as it is jarring d visual flow of d image...

nyways well done...

Regards

Hi Manyee

This is an exceptional shot. The detail is wonderful and the flowerhead seems to glow against the green leaves. Beautiful.

Hello Manyee,

I really like this shot of the lotus flower with its tight textured petals and protective sepals. I find it interesting to be paired with its seed head. Lovely detail and colours throughout.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

What a wonderful composition!! I love Lotus flowers and here you've captured a bud and seedhead both perfectly in focus. Lovely colours and sharp details. I like the beautiful leaves in the background too. A brilliant capture!

Hi ManYee

A superb capture of this lovely flower and a smart title to go with it. "Double Promise" is a promise of new life imminent from the developing seed pod and also a promise of great splendour and delight from the near perfect bud that will soon open up to reveal the exquisite beauty contained within.

A lovely composition with amazing contrasts between the pink bloom, the bright green face of the seed pod, and the dark greens of the leaves in the BG. The details and the colours are well defined, the DOF worked perfectly for this shot, and the exposure was spot-on.

Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

A double Beauty! Very well defined, great colors and the symmetry adds to the impact! Well done! Cheers, Klaus

Wow!
Hi Manyee,
This is a beutiful view. The color and fine pattern detail of the blossom is awesome. So neat it is next to the seed pod. The lighting and verve of the leaf BG brings them all together into one fine image.

Very meditative. Very clean focus, both flower and seed, pinsharp and fresh look, including those very natural colours. Work of art!

Hi, Manyee,

nice to 'meet' you : ) many thanks for your encouragement and comments at my bali bird.

my chinese name, in mandarin, is Huang Minyi. (while in English, it's Wong Man-Yee). "Man" stands for agile, "Yee" stands for manner or ritual. just wonder if we also have the same name in Chinese? : )

I like your photos a lot. You have a great variety of photos in your gallery. and this one is very beautiful and peaceful. it makes the viewers very comfortable : ) it's an excellent capture with great details, colours, composition and meaning.

thanks a lot for sharing.

have a nice day!

chrs,
Man Yee
