[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Insects in the family Hesperiidae (superfamily Hesperioidea) of the order Lepidoptera are commonly called skipper butterflies, after their quick, darting flight habits.

Skippers differ in several important ways from the remaining butterflies, which are classified in the superfamily Papilionoidea and the neotropical superfamily Hedyloidea. Collectively, these three groups of butterflies share several characteristics especially in the egg, larval and pupal stage (Ackery et al. 1999). However, skippers have the antennae clubs hooked backward like a crochet, whilst butterflies have club-like tips to their antennae and hedylids have feathered or pectinate antennae giving them an even more "moth"-like appearance than skippers. Skippers also have generally stockier bodies than the other two groups, with stronger wing muscles. Hesperioidea is very likely the sister group of Papilionoidea, and together with Hedyloidea constitute a natural group or clade.

There are about 3400 species of Skippers.

Silke (with apologies for my haste)

Hi Pankaj,
This is wonderful. Great timing to get this shot. Perfect sharpness and color clarity. Well seen picture. Congratulations.

The underside of the subject is bathed in the golden glow emanating from the yellow flower, Pankaj. This is a very unique feature of this capture.
The Skipper is in sharp focus against the plain BG.
TFS and regards.

When not knowing which to take this day we rely on the "good old skipper":-) It is the flower of course which attracted both the skipper and I. Sticks right out there. Best seen with little backdrop as well. You do have a golden eye.

Hi Pankaj,
a technically perfect shot of this Skipper.
+++ Perfect composition, POV, DOF which successfully blurs the BG while keeps the Skipper bang-on in focus and a BG very good BG that contrast well with the grey and orange of the foreground.
--- Slightly noisy but only a tiny little nit :)
Well done,
Joe

Hi Pankaj,

Not just another Skipper shot. Once again you have presented a striking, artistic creation. The dark background and the bright orange petals are fantastic. The butterfly is wonderful as usual with fine details and great colors.

Jane

Pankaj, Very lovely. The lighting, the background, the framing, sharpness, everything is good. I love the way the belly of the skipper is lit by reflections from the flower.

Hi Pankaj,
Splendid shot of this Skipper atop marigold flower I suppose. Superb lighting and it stands out from the darkish neutal BG pretty well. I like the way the sheen of the petal is reflecting on the bottom of the Skipper and its elegant posture. Very sharp and neat image. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.
