[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This butterfly hardly gave any time to shoot as it was quite restless but i still posted this image as this is the first Tailed jay of this season.

Tailed Jay
(Graphium agememnon menides, Fruhstorfer)

This butterfly has wingspan of 70-80 mm. The female has longer tail and a greenish white streak on the lower margin of the hind wing. The ground colour of the upperside of both sexes is black, and is filled with green spots / fluorescent green spots. specimens. The underside is mottled with green, brown, purple and gray.

The colors of the Tailed Jay blend well into its surroundings. The flying pattern of this butterfly makes it hard to get a good look at this very fast, lively, non-stop butterfly. It flies very fast & the narrow pointy wings and powerful thoracic muscles providing this insect with great speed, maneuverability and endurance, a set of characteristics shared by all members of the genus Graphium.

The Tailed Jay is one of the fastest nectar feeders of the butterflies .

Hello Pankaj,
a very artistic and beautifully composed picture showing the beauty of the butterfly very well. Closer inspection shows 'wing movement' visible at the tips. Furthermore, you exceptionally see the upperside colour pattern of the right hinwing due to the fact that the left hindwing is not fully inflated or is nearly completely missing.
Nevertheless, this does not diminish the quality of the picture.
Best wishes, Peter

two light sources make the shot vibrate with detail..the overhead natural light and the thyristor fill
the colours have come up with great saturation
and the detail by using f13 and a useful 1/200
froze this enough to make it presentable
good shooting
and the background of course has been relegated to just that..background
cheers

The colors!!! I love the green of the wings repeated in the lantana's foliage. There's a symmetry to color here that is fascinating! Wonderful shot!!!!!!

Hi Pankaj,
An amazing shot! Your butterfly has very beautiful lime coloured spots on wings!!! Great details and fine soft light. Flower and your subject are making A FANTASTIC picture!
Regards,

Claude

Hi Pankaj,
A beautiful capture of this tailed jay over lantana flowers. Lovely details and composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Pankaj,
I picked this photo for its contrast between the dark BG and the beautifully colored flowers. But also for the wonderful sharpness and colors of the butterfly. I particulary like how the pink and light green colors of the butterfly stand out against the darker colors of the wings. Some might say that you should have used a faster shutter speed to be able to freeze the motion in the wing, but I think that showing the motion made the photo less static. I like the way the flash illuminated the colors and gave you a shadeless impression.
TFS,
Niek
