Dear Friends

Today is sunday and i got enough time to experiment with my new macro lens and i am pleased to post my first post from the lens.

Using a dedicated macro lens was a bit difficult for me due to very limited dof and heavy weight but i was more than happy to see the results. It will take some time for me to understand and get familiar to the lens.

This shot has been taken with Nikon D 80 combining Sigma 150 mm macro lens. the shot has been taken handheld and fill flash was used.

A bit of cropping (very minor) , framing and resizing done for the presentation.

I request all our macro experts from TN to suggest about improving the macro photography skills.

Sounds like a popular advertisement but stll i will say that i am very happy to have this lens and "I am loving it".

I too tried my first macro with 105mm on a house fly, Pankaj! :)
Easy subject for the experiment, right?
And now congratulations for getting your 150mm macro. It is a wise choice.
Rest assured, your first macro with it is faultless.
Every feature of the fly has turned out to be crystal clear.
Wishing you all the best with the new lens, so shoot on!

Ciao Pankaj, fantastic macro with red eyes fly, amazing details and splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Your macro equipment works perfectly under your expert guidance Pankaj, this is a very good "first macro" indeed! Generally the best way to stabilize a super-macro shot is to use a tripod or stative, but a fill-in flash of short duration also "freezes" any unwanted movement of a hand held shot. A very nice image, this, my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

hello Pankaj,
really amazing details of this fly
an excellent fist macro shot

cheers sERGIO

Hello Pankaj,
This is really good! I'm sure the new lens will serve you well. The details are amazing. Very clear and sharp. The DOF is preety good too.
As for the less technicall stuff, superb colours and composition!
WELL DONE!

Witaj,
to naprawdę dobre makro! Widać każdy włosek na tej musze. Pięknie barwy owada kontrastują z jednolitym tłem i tą dziwną rośliną...
Gratuluję i pozdrawiam
Alina

Hello Pankaj,
i think you need a sharper lens ;-)
Congrats to your new fine lens, you will be happy.
The sharpness and details are excellent and the exposure too,
your use of the fill-in flash is what people could learn from,
no hard light with black shadows and no hard contrast,it's great. The DOF is also nearly perfect, the whole mail subject within focus. The colours are very nice.
Great work, my friend.

/Gert

Congratulations...I don't know if there is a rule of macros but no question that this is indeed a macro..and of a fly as well...Hey...this macro lens looks pretty pricey which is why you have been busy working overtime eh?
Bob

Hi Pankaj Da,
CONGRATULATIONS for owning a very nice macro lens. In my view you have mastered it. The DOF is very good and also the POV with sharp details and a lovely composition of the fly over the lantana seed stalk. Superb work. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Namaste Pankaj,
congrats for your new lens - and you got a very good result with the fly - I like the sharpness and the details, very well done.
Enjoy the work with the lens, I hope to see much more shots soon, thanks

Hi Pankaj

Congratulations for your new toy! I know you will use it well and get great photos with it, as you've done before will all your other lenses.
To be honest, only with this post of yours i realized that you didn't have a real macro lens until now...your famous butterfly photos are so good that i would have thought they were taken with such a lens :)
Anyway, this is an excellent shot, too.
The magnification and details here are outstanding and the fill-in flash worked superbly here to bring out some more hidden textures.
As Gert said, the DOF is near perfect, but the main thing is that the subject is in great focus...a bit more and the plant would have been, too.
Other than that, i think everything is as it should be. Congrats again and keep experimenting! ;)

Bravo and TFS

Hi Pankaj!

Well, it seems that you have your new lens totally under control. You present us an incredible macro picture, so clear and sharp! Moreover, the composition with the opposition of the blue and red spots is marvellous. The colours are another highlight of that amazing picture.

Hello Pankaj,
Congratulations for this nice fist macro shot. The sharpness is excellent and the composition too. I still new in macro shot, but I can say that a tripod is very useful to make the focus. I use also a monopod.

Hello Pankaj,
congrats for your dedicated macro lens. You first image from 105mm is awesome. Details of the fly are superb.DOF is too good. Optimum use of use of flash with blurred BG.

Very impressive start of dedicated macros.

I doubt, spot metering may be the cause OOF of lantana seed stalk. How about metering mode - "pattern"? :-)

Thanks a lot for sharing

Wow Pankaj, you have produced a real gem of a macro here.
I can't add to what others have said except to say fantastic job mf.
Very well done!

PS - You know since I got the M3 I cannot AF with my Sigma 150mm macro lens. Have to use manual focus. I need to call Sigma to see if they can "retro" it :/

PS - PS - Just a footnote: While I was looking at your fly, a fly landed on your fly on my monitor!! Is that weird or what ;-}}
