Dear Friends,

Another macro shot for you. I found this dragonfly perched on a creeper branch and took this shot focusing on the upper body part. The image has been cropped, resized and framed for final presentation.

The colorful bg is of the mini pool of my daugher, i tried to avoid it but couldnt avoid this colorful bg.

This shot is taken handheld and fill flash was used.
your critiques and comments are most welcome.

Information from wikipedia:

A dragonfly is a type of insect belonging to the order Odonata, the suborder Epiprocta or, in the strict sense, the infraorder Anisoptera. It is characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, and an elongated body. Dragonflies are similar to damselflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most dragonflies are held away from, and perpendicular to, the body when at rest.

Dragonflies typically eat mosquitoes, and other small insects like flies, bees, ants and butterflies. They are therefore valued as predators, since they help control populations of harmful insects. Dragonflies are usually found around lakes, ponds, streams and wetlands because their larvae, known as "nymphs", are aquatic. Adult dragonflies do not bite or sting humans, though nymphs are capable of delivering a painful bite.

Hi Pankaj,
as well as the obvious quality of this shot, your POV has given you a very nice background! This is macro photography at its best, well done!
Paul

Hi Pankaj,

Wow! Perfect macro and perfectly selected angle - looks like you can't get any closer, yet the sharpness of the dragonfly almost uniform - which is the hardest thing to do with macro shots.

Best regards,
Nick

Hi Pankaj,

A fantastic super macro of this dragonfly. The only thing that could be closer would be an x-ray. Amazing details of the eye and the structure of the face and body. Colors are wonderful - the mini-pool turned out to be a beautiful background.

Woow Pankaj, this is a fantastic macro!! Impressives details and colors, wonderful sharpness!!!My best best compliments,a top class pic, have a nice day,Luciano

Interesting on how the flash worked differently on certain parts of the image and better on others...if there is such a thing as better...Fie close in..I cannot still get within 100 feet of these unless they are dead:! And I have yet to see one of those either!

Hi Pankaj!

This macro picture is a full success. It's not only interesting because of the rich details, but also pleasant because of the fine colours and the perfect lighting. From my point of view, the unnatural background is a little disturbing element, but it does not influence on the beauty of the insect and the overall quality of the picture.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Pankaj,

You got indeed very close to the subject and moreover you have got an excelent DOF sp that the whole subject is in focus. There are many sharp details of insect's head and body to be seen. Despite the short distance to the insect you have had very good light. Therefore colors are well saturated and vivid.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian
