I am not sure about the id of this butterly which I found perched on a leaf on ground sipping from water droplets. Getting this pov made me bend to the level of the butterfly on earth and my activities amused the the spectators very much. They were wondering what this guy is upto????

This butterfly isnt melantis leda as this species is smaller then the melantis leda and the wing pattern is also different. I think that this belongs to the family Satyridae.

Any information regarding the species will be appreciated.

The shot has been taken hadheld with Nikon D80 along with Sigma 150mm macro lens. Fill flash was used.

The shot has been resized, cropped and framed for final presentation.

Your critiques and comments are most welcome.

Happy weekends to all dear friends. :-0)

Hello Pankaj,
A fine macro of a Satyrid butterfly that looks like it might be some species of Mycalesis. Taken from a fine POV with excellent sharpness and well composed on the droplet-covered leaf, the raindrops being a nice additional feature.
TFS this beauty,
Best wishes,
Ivan

No wonder people must have been amused at your antics while lying flat on your belly, Pankaj :).
The effort resulted into a fine picture with great clarity and natural colours.
The water droplets on the leaf are also magnificent and form a separate theme altogether.
My first thought went to Evening Brown, but then I decided against it. some expert ought to be able to crack the ID of this butterfly for you.
Well done and TFS.
Ram

Hello Pankaj,
This is a butterfly with subtle coloration of wings. Beautiful how it is posed on this leaf covered with little waterdrops. The composition and framing also are excellent. It seeems not so easy to find the ID, hope you will have the answer.
Thanks for this fine picture
Anne

Hi Pankaj,
I had to do a lot of studying to find out the eaxct ID and I zero it down to RED-DISC BUSHBROWN. If you have another shot of its upper wings then it will be easy. Anyway this is another excellent butterfly shot from you. The water drops add magic to the image. Very neat and sharp image and congratulations for your great effort.
TFS.

You are analogous to the surgeons hands...you use your eyes and hands with the camera in conjunction iwth some art which you picked up along the way...so this makes you a "natural" talent...entrance to a high quality photo school would be guaranteed..

Hi Pankaj,
I bey you have been having a great time with that Sigma macro lens of yours. The macro shots just seems to be getting richer and richer in content in your gallery.
The details of this butterfly is very well picked up and the water droplets make the scene more dynamic. The butterfly looks fresh and the environmnet around quite refreshing.Excellent sharpness.
TFS & Cheers

P.S:- Since you are using a macro lens, just wanted to clarify- can you give an approximate size of this species.Should be interesting to learn more.
