Since my first encounter with a mantis this insect has become one of my favourite as i like looking at this insect through the lens of the camera very much and enjoy its pose and activities. I have posted many different specimen of Mantids so far but still can not resist my self shooting it whenever i have an opportunity to do so.

This one i found resting on a small plant waiting for the prey which is mostly the flies these days.

Mantids are considered to be friend of farmers as sometime this insect is used to kill pests and mantids are sold for this purpose. Manitds are used as form of biological pest control.

Mantids also present us the very good art of camouflaging. There any many species which looks like a petal of colourful flower or a part of a dry leaf. It helps this insect in hiding from the prey as well as the predators.

I thank every one for there comments / critiques on my last post. your critiques and comments are always welcome.

Hi Pankaj,
Your mantis looks like preying my pea blue.
Excellent work, one of your best. Beautiful composition and gorgeous background, only this needed bit more contrast. tfs.

very nice close up, TFS Ori

The crafty guy has turned itself into a part of the plant, Pankaj. There is no chance of its missing an unsuspecting prey looking for rest or nourishment on the plant it has chosen.
I envy you for your rich access to this species. I had counted myself lucky when I had found one on a road last October and seen it crushed under the wheels of a passing lorry seconds after I has taken its pictures.
In your picture, the plain brown BG again plays a significant role in highlighting the green subject.
Well done and thanks.
