First of all a big thanks to maite for identifying this species for me.

This butterfly is Blue Mormon also known as Papilio polymnestor . Its a huge butterfly with a wingspan of 120 to 145 mm.

This is the biggest butterfly i have ever seen. I found this butterfly at Tamtora near Gomarda reserve forest. It was amazing watching this butterfly. It was a really beautiful specimen. BTW this is my 149th post of butterfly at TN and i hope to post the 150th soon.

This beautiful butterfly was resting on small plant near a pond. The shot has been taken handheld using the 18-135 kit lens of the camera.

Phylum: Arthropoda

Namaste Pankaj. Stunning creature. I hope our children and our children's children inherit a world where such beauty can still be seen in the wild. Lovely light and composition. Of course the colours are spot on. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Pankaj, well done again on this truly beautiful butterfly ! The details are very sharp and the exposure is great. Thanks !

Mario

Yes I agree. maite is quite the person...and has been out and about much more.
A nice image in your style sir. I am wondering where the word Mormon came from and why it was attached to certain butterfly's. The etymology of words is interesting. The image of one here is super. Maybe he too will have his own planet one day...those with ears hear.'
Bob

Hello Pankaj,
Excellent detail, right down to the small defects on the butterfly's left forewing, but otherwise this was a specimen in immaculate condition. Well found and TFS.

Hi Pankaj,
Awesome shot and the fact that you have been able to capture it full in your frame is a great effort. Usually they are so big that they fall off from the frame and you are left with cut wings. By the time you adjust they fly off. Wonderfully done. Lovely blue colour and sharp details on its wings. Superb lighting and exposure and I like your POV to portray it. Very nicely composed too. Kudos.
TFS.

* Sorry, have been a bit irregular, hope to come out of my present predicament soon.

Hello Pankaj,
Super details in this beautifiul creature!
I like the point of view and the "tilted" composition...
Fine patterns are captured in the wings, attractive colour palette!
Greetings,
Pablo -
