Another capture from my series of butterflies on lanata flowers.

This is common crow Butterfly.

The Common Crow (Euploea core) is a common butterfly . The Common Crow is the most common representative of its genus Euploea. Like the Tigers (Danaus spp), the Crows are inedible and mimicked by other Indian butterflies(see Batesian mimcry).
The Common Crow (Euploea core) is a glossy black butterfly with brown underside with white marks along the outer margins of the wing. The wingspan is about 8-9 cm and the body also has prominent white spots.
The Common Crow is distasteful due to chemicals extracted from the latex of the food plants consumed in their caterpillar stage. Thus protected, they fly in a leisurely manner, gliding skillfully with wings held slightly above the horizontal. This indicates its protection due to inedibility to a predator. The inexperienced predator will try attacking it, but will learn soon enough to avoid this butterfly as the alkaloids in its body cause vomiting.

The butterfly has tough, leathery wings. When attacked it shams death and oozes liquid which causes any predators to release them. The butterfly thus has the ability to recover 'miraculously' after the predator thinks it has been killed.

Hello Pankaj,

This is a very colorful picture of a beautiful butterfly. I like the composition and the colors. Actually, the nice part of a butterfly picture is that even if the butterfly isn't very colorful, it very often stands on a colorful flower. That's why I like butterfly pictures so much. The background looks very interesting to me. I've never seen a sky with clouds like this. It might be a water surface though! Very original! Thanks!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

Another example of how much butterflies love the lantana flower. Great composition with excellent focus on subject and outstanding exposure to bring out the details on such a dark butterfly. The frame is a bit heavy, but that is just a personal preference. I think a white frame with a tin black line would look nice.

Great capture on Lantana! It also seems to be a fairly large Butterfly (unless Indian Lantana is much smaller than ours in the States :) ) Good detail and pose! Cheers, Klaus

Hi Pankaj,

A beautiful Common Crow on the lovely lantana. Wonderful black and white with the pretty colored flowers. Fine details and lovely to look at as all your butterfly pictures are.

Jane

Pankaj, Well composed. Great Picture with the flowers included. I am surprised by the blueness of the spots. Common Crows are brownish with white spots. Please check the white balance.

Hi Pankaj,
3 more to go. Keep it up. A beautiful capture with lovely details and nice composition with lantana flowers with very good BG. Thanks a lot for sharing.

I have you on my favorites so when I saw the name of the photo, I expected a bird. ha ha I was reading about the intelligence of crows yesterday on Robert Winkler's site.
This is a beauty. Great light! And so much detail - we can even see the little spider web in the plant. Very nice!

Precioso macro con un excelente encuadre. Buen contraste de colores. Saludos.

Common Crow is a distinct Indian butterfly and you have captured it very well against the sky, Pankaj.
