Grey Pansy
(Junonia atlites , Linnaeus)
The Gray Pansy Junonia atlites is a common species of nymphalid butterfly found in India.

This butterfly has wingspan of 55-65 mm. Its a medium sized butterfly with dark wing margins. There is a series of short bands on costal margin of the forewing. The underside color is much pale and the hind wing has an oblique line running across the wing.

Its behavior is very similar to other pansies except in egg laying. It often lay eggs on plants above the waterline in open water bodies.

Hi Pankaj,
First at the risk of repeating myself, I really like your intro notes... Your country offers so many different species of butterflies, this is amazing! I like this picture a lot for its beautiful composition and the beauty of this specie. This is an unusual choice of shutter speed that worked well in my opinion. The blurry movement of its wings is nice and different. This aperture you chose makes beautiful details stand out. This is well seen and well done! Thanks,
Claudine

Hello Pankaj,
This is a superb portrait of a Grey Pansy showing with fine sharpness the undersides of the wings that are a little open to give us a glimpse of the upper surface, that you have also caught sharply. The colours, lighting, POV and composition are as usual a delight to see and thanks for sharing this beauty,
Ivan

Sorry, Pankaj, but I'm not keeping up with all your excellent posts!
This is a lovely composition showing the Grey Pansy from a fine POV with wings a little open. Fine sharp details of the wing pattern and beautiful colours. Lovely colours of the soft background too. Well done!

Hi Pankaj.
Once more fantastic butterfly picture from you. BG, insect and flower are the best and all together they create a true masterpiece. Great DOF and amazing reproduction of all features of the flower (and each its petal) and of the butterfly. Coloration and smoothness of the BG are terrific too. Bravo.

Hi Pankaj,
We miss your butterflies ....
And you heard me right Pankaj and i heard Ram sir echoing the same and also glad to know you are taking measures to address this concern:)

THis presentation of the grey pansy grabbed my attention while i browsed through your gallery. And opening it, i wasnt disappointed.I like the flutter recorded in the wing end and i get the feeling this is one busybody.I also wonder whether you could manage an open wing shot here .
The details become sharp and clear as the gaze shifts away from the wing ends to its body. The rich patterns on the wings have been picked up well and the light filtering in as the wings remain slightly open has ceated an interesting effect. The framing cleverly done with just the flower shown with a larger portion of the frame dedicated to the butterfly, considering the way it is perched on the flower.Nice muted surroundings with the focus falling completely on to the primary and secondary subjects of this composition.
Very well done.
TFS & Cheers
P.S:-Thank you for adding me to your favourites:)
