I took this shot of the gaint wood spider while travelling on national highway no : 6 near a small town Pithora. I went to the nearby forest in search of some insects and found 3 species of spiders.

This is a giant wood spider ( female) also known as golden orb weaver or Nephilia Maculata. These speiders are quite common in the forests of Chhattisgarh as i have found them in alomst all of the forest which i have visited. The web formation is very big and is strong too.

I am posting both the frontal and the back view of this species. The other side view is posted in the workshop for reference.

This shot has been taken with Nikon D 80 along with Sigma 150 mm macro lens. It was a sunny day but there wasnt enough sunlight inside the forest so i opted for tripod and fill flash was used.

Your critiques and comments are most welcome.

Very good color, detail, DOF, & use of flash to fill Pankaj,
And your flash has lit up this intricate web nicely, it's well seen against the dark BG. Well composed - Well done.
Howard

A finely executed close up shot of a beautiful Nephilia specimen showing its colourful dorsal aspect Pankaj, the ventral aspect is less colourful but as sharp as this one, both exposed quite correctly against OOF backdrops. TFS these fine images my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

A superb underside capture of this spectacular large spider in its web. I like the contrast of the bright body markings against the OOF dark BG taken with fine sharpness.
Thanks and best regards,

Hello Pankaj !
What an impressive spider - I'm happy we don't have them in our forestes, here, or else I wouldn't dar to go into the forest anymore (I'm afraid of spiders). ut the pictures, this one and WS, are wonderful. Excellent details, great use of your flash, wonderful composition and POV, beautiful blurred BG, and nice to see the wab also. Very well done !
Valérie.

Beautiful spider. So often overlooked is the beauty and useful of the arachnids. Thanks for sharing this with us.
