Far beyond the reach of my Olympus Sp 510uz camera capabilities it was shot at Chidiya Tapu (Bird Island) in South Andaman.I had to crop the image to see which bird is this..........finally I found that its Vernal Hanging Parrot (Loriculus vernalis) & they are rare to be seen in India. This photograph (though poor quality) is to document the existence of this bird at Port Blair.

*************************************************************************************

The Vernal Hanging Parrot (Loriculus vernalis) is a small parrot which is a resident breeder from India eastwards to Southeast Asia. In Sri Lanka, it is replaced by the very similar endemic Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, (L. beryllinus). It undergoes local movements, driven mainly by the availability of the fruit, seeds, buds and blossoms that make up its diet.

Vernal Hanging Parrot is a bird of dry jungle and cultivation. It nests in holes in trees, laying 2-4 white eggs.

This is a small, mainly green hanging parrot, only 14 cm long with a short tail. The adult has a red rump and bill, and blue throat patch.

Immature birds have a duller rump, and lack the throat patch.

Vernal Hanging Parrot is less gregarious than some of its relatives, and is usually in small groups outside the breeding season. Its flight is swift and direct, and the call is a raucous chattering.

Hi Mr. Subhash,
Although the photo is not that good but it is worth posting because I am seeing this species of parrot for the first time in my life. Very useful notes too. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Subhash,
The Vernal Hanging Parrot is a small species that I have seen in the Western Ghats but not been able to photograph so it's nice to see this shot. Even though it is distant, it is clearly seen especially when perched in the dead tree.
Thanks for posting this,
Best regards,
Ivan

Hello Subhahs !
This is a lovely picture of this beautiful bird, I love how he is perched at the very end of the thin branch. Maybe quality is not the best, but the composition is excellent, and just the fact of ahving been able to capture this rare bird makes this picture worth posting. Very well done !
Valérie.
