This post of black drongo is dedicated to VICMA CS (Juyona). Thank you very much for viewing.

This was taken at Bhadrak, Sumon Da's village. I went for some work there and found this bird very fond of free ride.


BLACK DRONGO or KING CROW

Dicrurus macrocercus
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Dicruridae
Genus: Dicrurus
Species: macrocercus

It is a slim and agile glossy black bird with a long, deeply forked tail. Both the sexes are alike. It can be seen singly on the open country side and in cultivated areas. It feeds on insects, flower nectar and also occasionally on small birds.

Call A variety of harsh scolding or challenging calls are uttered.

Nesting April - August Nest: A flimsy-bottomed cup of fine twigs and fibres cemented in a fork at the extremity of branch 12-30 ft up in large trees mostly standing alone in the open.


Eggs: 3-5, both sexes share all domestic duties.

Very cute...I saw this once before somewhere I believe by Annick and that was taken in Southern Africa...so it must be a sight in many places. I have heard of it here as well but never seen i8t...Nicely done!

Hi Haraprasan,
Nice to see that you have posted a shot from Bhadrak. I am too much emotionally attached with my native place and return back to it whenever I have the slightest of time. Wonderful shot of the Black Drongo having a free ride. Though the image lacks highlight values still it looks nice. I was tempted to do a workshop on it but after seeing Marie's work I am satisfied and decide not to. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
