Well, this is a change of topic. Giving butterflies a rest I present this wild flower which grows everywhere in India. A prick from the thorns of the plant is very painful and we often used to fall prey while playing in our native village. But its flower is so pretty, delicate and colourful. Shot taken hand held in bright sunshine. Hope everyone like it.

------------------------
Argemone mexicana (Mexican Poppy, Mexican Prickly Poppy or Cardosanto) is a species of poppy found in Mexico and now widely naturalized in the United States, India and Ethiopia. An annual herb with bright yellow sap, it has been used by the Natives of the western US and parts of Mexico. The seed-pods secrete a pale-yellow latex substance when cut open. This argemone resin contains berberine and protopine, and is used medicinally as a sedative.

The seeds contain 22-36% of a pale yellow non-edible oil, called argemone oil or katkar oil, which contains the toxic alkaloids sanguinarine and dihydrosanguinarine. Surprisingly, the oil is used to grease the cooking plate to bake the injera in Ethiopia. The seeds resemble the seeds of Brassica nigra (mustard). As a result, mustard can be adulterated by argemone seeds, rendering it poisonous. The oil itself is used medicinally to treat dropsy, jaundice and skin diseases. Katkar oil poisoning causes epidemic dropsy, with symptoms including extreme swelling, particularly of the legs. Several significant instances of katkar poisoning have been reported in India, Fiji, South Africa and other countries. The last major outbreak in India occurred in 1998. 1% adulteration of mustard oil by argemone oil has been shown to cause clinical disease.

Hi Sumon!

Just wonderful! The flower is perfectly sharp, all the magnificient details are visible. Moreover, the colour and lighting management is superb. The flower itself is a beauty, and I like the shape of the leaves very much. The spectator gets the impression that the pointed and sharp leaves would like to protect the delicate petals from any approach or intrusion.

Simple, beautiful, very natural!

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Sumon,
Another plant distributed in the wild by man and one I didn't know about! This Mexican Prickly Poppy is a real beauty both in the leaves and the flower: it must have been a garden plant in tropical gardens. You caught it with fine sharpness to show us both the flower and leaves in an excellent way.
Thanks for sharing this beauty and the info.,
Ivan

Hallo Sumon
A sunny and bright presentation of this Mexican Argemone. To me yellow is always such a sunny and cheerful colour. Details of both the yellow petals and yellow and red anthers of the flower are superb, and match well together. The fine pollen dust are displayed well on the petals of the same colour. Very good close up with absolute sharpness. You choose such a beautiful flower as topic for a change in your postings. Nature is really awesome. Love the thorny background. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Lovely composition.Good POV and fantastic color.Sharpness and detail are excellent.

Now you see, or already know that putting the red spot just a tad off center makes the image. had it been centered...it would have been more of a mandala than a picture. Very nice colours and super saturation which never seems to trouble the eye...very well done sir Sumon!

Very good shot of this interesting flower Sumon. Light is good on the subject, you've picked up good sharp detail, to show us those thorns on the leaves, and I like how you can see the pollen within the flower. Colour is very good with great contrast seen between the stigma and flower and the leaves.

Thanks, John

Bonsoir Sumon

Hi Sumon.
Fantastic shot of quality and beautifulness of the subject. You managed to show all charming features of the flower by the best way. Terrific detail and colour reproduction, amazing DOF and ratio between crisp sharpness and pleasant blurriness. Composition and pOV are spot on too. Bravo. Superb skill job.
